What is documented at UNL — and what isn't

UNL's Information Technology Services described its Turnitin service in Canvas as a plagiarism and similarity tool at last review (no on-page date displayed; retrieved Aug 30, 2026), including a statement that Turnitin does not itself determine whether plagiarism occurred. That page has since moved into the University of Nebraska system's shared support portal, and the more detailed description no longer appears anywhere located in this review; the current page states only (no on-page date displayed; retrieved Sep 1, 2026):

"Turnitin is a plagiarism prevention service connected to the Canvas Assignment Feature." "Turnitin checks for similarity between the student submitted assignment and other sources such as website, books, articles, and their own database of previously submitted papers."

On AI-text detection itself, UNL's Center for Transformative Teaching publishes a generative-AI FAQ that answers the question directly (no on-page date displayed; retrieved Aug 30, 2026):

"Does UNL have a supported AI checker? No, not at this time." "At present, the AI detection tools available are not of high enough quality to recommend using them to assess the validity of student work."
