City University of Seattle.

Detection status
An unnamed plagiarism-detection tool confirmed deployed through the learning management system (Academic Integrity Policy #2300.10); no AI-text detector confirmed by name anywhere on cityu.edu across a named-vendor and category sweep — a 2013 MBA-program newsletter and a login-gated my.cityu.edu/turnitin/ portal address are the only sources naming Turnitin, both too stale or too narrow to confirm what tool operates campus-wide today
Office in these sources
Provost's Office — no dedicated academic-integrity or student-conduct office is named; the Provost's Office keeps the records of Academic Integrity Policy violations and decides appeals. What CityU's own pages say about detection

CityU's Academic Integrity Policy (#2300.10, 2026–2027 Catalog; no on-page revision date shown; retrieved Sep 11, 2026) states, in its introduction:

"Faculty and staff use a variety of methods to identify instances of academic dishonesty in City University of Seattle courses, including a plagiarism detection software available through the learning management system."

Neither this page nor its companion Academic Integrity Review Procedures page names the tool. The same policy separately defines, among examples of cheating:

"Utilizing generative artificial intelligence without guidance from a faculty member to write a paper, produce code, or generate any other required course assignment without proper citation."

That is a citation and attribution requirement, not a statement that a detector screens submissions for AI-generated text. The Academic Integrity Review Procedures page's sanctions grid separately names "generative AI" among examples of prohibited materials, devices, or technology if used without authorization during a test, quiz, or other assignment — again a use-restriction, not a detection-tool statement. Named-vendor sweep (Turnitin's AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) found no current, campus-wide first-party statement naming any detector. Two items name Turnitin specifically, and neither is treated as evidence of what operates campus-wide today: a portal address at my.cityu.edu/turnitin/ (the address itself is CityU's own naming of the tool, though the page requires a student login and its content could not be read) and a CityU blog newsletter stating "As of Fall 2013, Turnitin will be a requirement for all courses within the MBA Program" and "The Turnitin link will be available within your Blackboard course" — program-specific to the MBA and thirteen years old. Source: MBA Quarterly Newsletter: Spring Quarter (retrieved Sep 11, 2026).

Category sweep (the CityU Library's AI-resources guides for students and generally, the Accreditation, Policies and Procedures page, the Contact Us and Student Services pages) found no additional detector named and no first-party statement on what evidentiary weight, if any, a detection-tool result carries once a case reaches the faculty member or the Academic Integrity Board. This absence is stated at the scope searched; a broader web search was not performed. Nothing found disables or recommends against using the LMS plagiarism-detection tool — the Academic Integrity Policy affirmatively describes it as one of the methods faculty and staff use, so the disqualification standard is not met.

02Published process

What CityU's own pages say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
"Students may bring someone with them for support throughout the hearing, but that individual may not engage in the discussion regarding the allegation." A translator is separately available: "The university will approve a translator for the hearing when requested by the student." Recording of an Academic Integrity Board hearing is not addressed either way in this procedure. — Academic Integrity Review Procedures, 2026–2027 Catalog (retrieved Sep 11, 2026) · Academic Integrity Review Procedures
What follows on the record
"Academic sanctions levied by the Board are noted in the student's record." A course repeated after a sanctioned 0.0 carries GPA notation: the first attempt "is removed from the cumulative GPA with the words 'prior attempt'" and the second "is calculated into the cumulative GPA with the words 'repeated.'" Not stated in the sources reviewed: whether this is a transcript notation as distinct from an internal record, a retention period, or disclosure to a graduate program, employer, or licensing board. — Academic Integrity Review Procedures, 2026–2027 Catalog (retrieved Sep 11, 2026) · Academic Integrity Review Procedures

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

From the Academic Integrity Review Procedures page (2026–2027 Catalog; no on-page revision date shown; retrieved Sep 11, 2026):

"When a faculty member suspects that a student has violated the Academic Integrity Policy, they will inform the student of the allegation and present the student with supporting evidence." "The student has five business days to sign and return the form to indicate whether or not s/he accepts the sanction assigned by the faculty. A student's failure to sign and return the Academic Integrity form by the specified date will be interpreted as consenting to the charge and sanction." "If the Provost's Office determines that the violation constitutes a violation of the Student Code of Conduct or there are previous violations, the Provost will refer the case to the Academic Integrity Board for a hearing." "The Academic Integrity Board schedules hearings a minimum of once per month to address issues. Allegations must be received a minimum of 7 calendar days prior to the scheduled meeting, otherwise they are held over to the next scheduled meeting." "A simple majority of Board members is required to make a determination as to whether the student committed the act of academic dishonesty in question." "Students may appeal the Academic Integrity Board's decision within ten calendar days to the Provost." Appeals are reviewed on four stated grounds: new information not available at the hearing, a documented procedural error, an inappropriate sanction, or a lack of facts establishing a violation. "The decision of the Provost is final."

No source reviewed states a formal evidentiary standard (such as a preponderance standard) governing the Board's determination. Sanctions are set by a published grid ranging, depending on the violation, its level, and prior offenses, from a grade reduction on one item through course failure, academic probation, multi-quarter suspension, or expulsion; faculty impose sanctions directly for first-time or lower-level violations, and the Board handles escalated and repeat cases. Revision history of this page

2026-09-11 — Page created. All quotations retrieved this date, direct first-party fetch of the pages linked beside them; the Academic Integrity Policy and Academic Integrity Review Procedures pages carry no on-page revision date and are cited to the 2026–2027 Catalog they sit in. Detection sweep performed: named-vendor sweep (Turnitin's AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and category sweep (LMS/third-party-tools pages, the Library's AI-resources guides, the general compliance page, Contact Us and Student Services) both came back without a named AI-text detector; this is a silent inventory, not an adverse one, and is not treated as a step-2 disqualification since the Academic Integrity Policy affirmatively describes an in-use, unnamed plagiarism-detection tool. Two sources naming "Turnitin" specifically were found and deliberately not used to identify the current campus-wide tool: a my.cityu.edu/turnitin/ portal address, login-gated and unreadable without a student account (used only as CityU's own naming of a tool, not as evidence of current scope), and a CityU blog newsletter naming Fall 2013 as when Turnitin became required for the MBA Program specifically — thirteen years old and program-scoped, not campus-wide. NAME-COLLISION CAUTION: other institutions worldwide use "CityU" as a short form (City University of Hong Kong at cityu.edu.hk, City University of Macau at cityu.edu.mo, City University Malaysia at city.edu.my); several searches returned their pages, and none of that content is used anywhere on this page. Ombuds/advocacy search (ombuds, ombudsperson, student advocacy, dean of students advocacy) on cityu.edu found no eligible office; docket states the absence rather than assumes it from a search that returned other institutions' pages. CAPTURE METHOD: the general contact email on cityu.edu/contact-us/ is published in Cloudflare's obfuscated-markup form rather than plain text; it was decoded from the page's own data-cfemail attribute (a standard, publicly documented reversal of that encoding, not a third-party claim) and confirmed to read info@cityu.edu. No Provost's-Office-specific phone or email was located; the general university contact is used and labeled as general. Record-retention and disclosure questions (transcript notation as distinct from internal record, retention period, third-party disclosure) are stated as not addressed in the sources reviewed rather than assumed either way. Archive captures not requested this pass. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-09-11).
