Detection status
No AI-text detector confirmed deployed; EKU's own AI Guidance page lists only general-purpose, university-contracted AI tools (Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini), and the current Academic Integrity regulation names no detection tool anywhere in its text

Eastern Kentucky University's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — EKU's own regulations require every course syllabus to address AI use, so course-level rules may also apply. 01Detection status

No AI-text detector confirmed in institutional use at EKU

A named-vendor sweep (Turnitin/SimCheck/Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and a category sweep of EKU's AI Guidance knowledge-base article, the Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning's GenAI programming page, and Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR (Academic Integrity, effective Nov 18, 2025) found no institutionally deployed or named AI-text detector anywhere.

EKU's AI Guidance page states the university's contracted AI tools this way (retrieved Sep 21, 2026):

"Current university-contracted AI tools available through EKU-supported accounts include:"

— listed underneath as Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini, and Gemini Notebook (previously NotebookLM), each with its own EKU-account sign-in instructions.

"AI tools that are not covered by an EKU contract have not undergone EKU's security, privacy, and contract review and may not provide institutional safeguards for university data, confidential information, or protected information."

Source: Artificial Intelligence (AI) Guidance. All three listed tools are general-purpose generative AI assistants, not detectors. The page directs AI-in-teaching questions to the Office of Artificial Intelligence Strategies, Innovation, and Success (OAISIS) and to Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR, which itself names no detection tool anywhere in its definitions or its five-step case procedure — cheating, plagiarism, and fabrication involving AI are all defined by what a student did (using an unauthorized tool, failing to disclose AI use, submitting AI-generated work as one's own), never by reference to a detector's output. Source: Academic Integrity 4.1.3 (Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR, effective November 18, 2025).

This is an empty AI-text-detector inventory at the scope searched above, not a documented deactivation: no EKU page states that a detector was ever enabled, purchased, or subsequently disabled, and none names one at all.

02Published process

What EKU's own pages say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
"An accused student has the right to have a silent advisor present, who may be an attorney, student, friend, etc. at any proceedings at step 2 and step 4. The silent advisor is not permitted to speak in any hearing through this process." Recording of a hearing is not addressed anywhere in the regulation. — Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR, Definitions ("Silent Advisor") (effective Nov 18, 2025; retrieved Sep 21, 2026) · Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR (PDF)
What follows on the record
"The 'FX' grade is a final and permanent notation on the student's transcript. […] Upon exhaustion of the appeals process set forth in the Academic Integrity Policy 4.1.3, the notation cannot be removed. A student may retake the course where the 'FX' notation is applied, and the new grade will replace the 'FX' in the calculation of the student's GPA. The 'FX' notation, however, will remain on the student's transcript." The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards "is responsible for maintaining all records of all incidents involving the EKU Academic Integrity policy"; no numeric retention period or third-party disclosure rule is stated. — same source

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR (effective November 18, 2025; retrieved Sep 21, 2026) lays out a five-step process. No standard of proof (such as preponderance of the evidence) is named; instead, findings and sanctions at each committee stage require a vote:

"A minimum of 4 Committee members must be present. To determine that a violation has occurred, 3 of the 5 Committee members must agree. To determine the sanction, 3 of the 5 Committee members must agree." "A student can appeal the decision of the College Academic Integrity Committee to the University Academic Integrity Committee. This appeal can only be made based upon irregularities in procedure, new information not available for the first hearing, or punishment not consistent with the violation." "The decision of the University Academic Integrity Committee is final and can only be appealed if the sanction is suspension, expulsion, or 'FX' grade." Where that ground applies, "the student can appeal to the Provost. […] The decision of the Provost is final."

The sequence runs: an informal review by the faculty/staff member or a direct referral to the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (SCCS); if contested, a College Academic Integrity Committee hearing (Step 2); an appeal to the University Academic Integrity Committee (Steps 3–4); and, only where the sanction is suspension, expulsion, or an "FX" grade, a final appeal to the Provost (Step 5), decided in writing within ten academic days. The minimum sanction for a violation is "an 'F' for the test, assignment or activity," with the student barred from retaking or rewriting it; more serious sanctions include an "F" for the course (no drop or withdrawal permitted), the "FX" notation, suspension, and expulsion. 04Change log

Revision history of this page

2026-09-21 — Page created by an automated build pass; no human review is claimed for this entry. First-party material captured this date from eku.edu (AI Guidance knowledge-base article, no on-page revision date; Academic Integrity 4.1.3 landing page; Faculty Center for Teaching & Learning) and from files.eku.edu (Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR, effective Nov 18, 2025, fetched directly as a PDF after the policy landing page's "View University Policy PDF" control proved to be a client-side trigger rather than a plain link — the PDF path was located by pattern-matching this Policy and Regulation Library's other, search-indexed PDF URLs and confirmed by a successful fetch). Named-vendor sweep and category sweep both came back empty of any institutionally deployed or even named AI-text detector; EKU's only listed university-contracted AI tools (Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Gemini, Gemini Notebook) are general-purpose generative assistants, not detectors, and Academic Regulation 4.1.3ACR defines every AI-related violation by the student's own conduct (using an unauthorized tool, failing to disclose, submitting AI-generated work as one's own) rather than by reference to any detector output. DELIBERATE OMISSION: a search result titled "Inside Look | STUDENT CONDUCT & COMMUNITY STANDARDS" at studentconduct.eku.edu/insidelook/eku-advocates, referencing an "EKU Advocates" program, could not be reached in this review — the URL redirects to the department's main landing page rather than serving its own content — so nothing about that program is stated on this page, and no ombuds or advocacy office is recorded as available. faculty911.eku.edu, which several search results also referenced, does not resolve (DNS failure) and was not used. Named-vendor and category sweeps for an ombudsperson or student-advocate office ("ombud," "ombudsperson," "student advocate") found nothing else on eku.edu. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Internet Archive captures pending — to be requested by a later capture pass. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-09-21).
