No AI-text detector confirmed deployed

Farmingdale's Distance Learning resource catalog describes Turnitin, available to faculty and staff through Brightspace, without naming an AI-writing feature (page dated Last Modified 5/6/26; retrieved Oct 2, 2026):

"a tool integrated with Brightspace to help maintain academic integrity by detecting plagiarism in student submissions." "an ever-growing database consisting of online web pages, academic papers, as well as previously submitted student assignments." "Turnitin also offers additional tools like Feedback Studio to provide students aid as they are working and help grow their writing abilities."

Source: Turnitin — Distance Learning Resource Catalog. A faculty-training event the same office ran in Mar 2025 was framed around Turnitin's Similarity Report, consistent with Turnitin being deployed at Farmingdale for similarity/plagiarism checking rather than AI-writing detection.

Category sweep: the Library's Artificial Intelligence research guide (dated Last Modified 12/15/25; retrieved Oct 2, 2026) covers AI definitions, risks, appropriate use and citation, and names no detection tool. The Faculty Center's AI-related pages describe faculty development support for AI in teaching without naming a detection tool. Searches of Farmingdale's academic-integrity, student-conduct, distance-learning, library and faculty-development pages found no AI-text detector named anywhere on farmingdale.edu (GPTZero, Copyleaks, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity, iThenticate, SimCheck). This is an empty inventory, not a documented deactivation.

What Farmingdale's own pages say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
"Reporting Individual(s) and Respondent(s) may appear at the hearing with an advisor of their choice -- who can be a friend, family member, legal representative, or an impartial third party […] for support. The role of the advisor is to assist each party, but not to engage in any verbal presentation or questioning." Both in-person and remote hearings "are recorded for the purposes of record retention." — Student Code of Conduct, Section IV (no on-page date; Last-Modified Dec 12, 2025; retrieved Oct 2, 2026) · Student Code of Conduct
What follows on the record
"A record of student conduct action shall be placed on a student's academic transcript" for "[a]n academic integrity violation resulting in suspension or permanent expulsion," and "Transcript notations of expulsion and academic dishonesty are permanent and not subject to appeal." Conduct records are "generally... maintained for a period of seven (7) years following the end of the academic year in which the matter was resolved, consistent with SUNY Records Retention Policy 6609." — Student Code of Conduct, Sections IV and V (no on-page date; Last-Modified Dec 12, 2025; retrieved Oct 2, 2026) · Student Code of Conduct

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

From the Student Code of Conduct (no on-page date; Last-Modified Dec 12, 2025; retrieved Oct 2, 2026) and the Academic Integrity Policy (updated May 2017; retrieved Oct 2, 2026):

"Students are warned that if found in violation of academic dishonesty they may be subject to two types of sanctions. In addition to the student conduct system, if the instructor is convinced that the student has been dishonest, the instructor may administer an academic penalty. […] At the same time, the student may be subject to the proceedings and sanctions of the Student Conduct System." "Preponderance of Evidence: the standard of proof used in all cases that asks whether it is 'more likely than not' that the violation occurred. If the evidence presented meets this standard, then the respondent should be found responsible." "Students found responsible for violations of the Student Code of Conduct may appeal such findings on the following limited grounds: 1. Significant violation of student conduct procedures; 2. New information, unavailable at the time of the hearing, has become available and could have substantially impacted the decision; and/or 3. The sanction(s) issued is/are disproportionate in relation to the student's conduct record and/or nature of the violation." A written appeal application must reach the Office of the Dean of Students "within five (5) business days of receipt of written notification of sanctions."

Revision history of this page

2026-10-02 — Page created. Named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and category sweep (the Distance Learning resource catalog, the Library's Artificial Intelligence research guide, the Faculty Center's pages, the Academic Integrity Policy, and the Student Code of Conduct) found Turnitin confirmed only for plagiarism/similarity checking (Feedback Studio and a Similarity Report, per the resource catalog and a faculty-training event title); no AI-writing-detection feature or any other AI-text detector is named anywhere on farmingdale.edu. NOT DISQUALIFIED: an empty inventory, not a documented deactivation. STALE-DOCUMENT CARE: search results surfaced several old, dated copies of the Student Code of Conduct (filenames carrying 2017-2018 and 2018-2019) still served from the same /dean/pdf/ directory; this page instead uses the undated-filename "student_code_of_conduct.pdf" linked live from the Dean of Students' own policies page (confirmed by fetching that page directly), with an HTTP Last-Modified header of Dec 12, 2025 recorded here since the PDF itself carries no on-page date. EXTRACTION FIXES: the Student Code of Conduct PDF is captured with pdftotext's own default mode rather than the recipe tool's first proposal (-raw), which was dropping the inter-word space at many justified-text line breaks throughout the document ("standardof," "orsurvivoragainstwhom," and others); the Advisors-section quotation is also elided at the point where the PDF's footnote marker and footnote text are extracted inline, splitting the sentence mid-clause. OMBUDS/ADVOCACY CHECKED AND NOT FOUND: an "FSC Ombuds Team" launched fall 2025 describes itself, in the president's own introduction email, as confidential but does not name students among those it serves, and a separate search result independently describes the team as a resource "for faculty and staff." A "Student Advocate" position sits within the Office of the Dean of Students, but the only first-party description located of that specific role scopes it to the Basic Needs Hub (food and housing insecurity), not academic integrity or conduct cases; the office's own general "Student Advocacy: We listen, guide, and help resolve concerns" line is too undifferentiated from the office that administers the conduct process itself to use here. Docket states "None located." Nothing paraphrase-pending. Archive captures pending — not requested this pass (unattended scheduled run). Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-10-02).
