Full Sail University.

Detection status
No AI-detection or similarity-checking tool named on Full Sail's public pages in this review; the Student Manual (06.26) leaves generative-AI use to instructor discretion and treats unattributed AI-generated content as Academic Dishonesty; Turnitin use is asserted only in the vendor's own case study, not on a Full Sail page
Office in these sources
No academic-integrity office is named. The Student Manual assigns academic-dishonesty determinations to "the Program Director and Student Conduct Manager" and written appeals to the Director of Student Development via the Education department — no phone or email stated for any of them in these sources. Education department (the Manual's general number): (407) 551-2024 or (800) 221-2747 · Student Concerns and Formal Complaint forms: studentsupport@fullsail.com · Director of Academic Success (formal General Complaints): fcg@fullsail.com · Student Manual (PDF)
Ombuds or advocacy office
None located on the institution's own pages in this review.

Full Sail University's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted in brief and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — the Student Manual (edition 06.26) carries the Full Sail Code of Conduct, the Artificial Intelligence Policy, the Academic Dishonesty standard and its consequences, and the Appeals Procedure; the online Catalog restates conduct, appeals, records and complaint provisions in shorter form; the Manual itself says the Artificial Intelligence Policy operates at instructor discretion and that courses "may extend unique guidelines and parameters for the use of AI" as it relates to coursework, so an individual course's rules may add to it. Confirm applicability with the institution. Any dates or deadlines are quoted from the sources, not a deadline calculation performed for you.

01Detection status

What is documented — and what isn't

No page on Full Sail's own public domains located in this review names an AI-writing detector, a similarity checker, or a proctoring product as a tool the university runs on student work. What Full Sail does publish is a policy. The Student Manual (edition 06.26; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) sets out an Artificial Intelligence Policy inside the Full Sail Code of Conduct:

"The use of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, Grammarly, or similar technologies, to complete course assignments is subject to the discretion of the instructor. Students must contact their instructor to determine if AI tools are permitted in their course."

The same section ties unattributed AI output to the Academic Dishonesty standard:

"Students must use AI tools ethically and responsibly. If an AI tool is used for any part of an assignment, it must be properly cited following appropriate academic citation guidelines. Failure to correctly attribute AI-generated content will be considered a violation of the institution’s Academic Dishonesty policy."

The Manual's Academic Dishonesty section states the presumption an instructor starts from, without naming any means of detection: "Work submitted by our students is assumed to be a student’s own thoughts, ideas, and words. Discovery of the contrary will result in immediate consequences." How a "discovery" is made is not stated anywhere in the sections captured. The university's Artificial Intelligence Mission Statement, in the same Manual, adds that "[o]ur courses may extend unique guidelines and parameters for the use of AI as it relates to coursework and curriculum expectations" — the course-level layer the lede refers to. The library's AI for Research guide says the same from the library's side (LibGuides, page last updated Oct 30, 2025; retrieved Sep 5, 2026): "Acceptable use of ChatGPT and other AI-generated content for student assignments and projects is determined by class and program policy. Consult course materials and instructors for guidance." The university's public Artificial Intelligence page (fullsail.edu/about/artificial-intelligence; undated; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) is a statement about AI in the curriculum and creative work and says nothing about detection either way.

Turnitin is the one vendor with a documented connection to Full Sail, and the documentation is not Full Sail's. Turnitin's own customer story about Full Sail (dated Feb 27, 2018 on Turnitin's site) describes faculty use of Turnitin Feedback Studio for grading, feedback and plagiarism prevention. That is a vendor's marketing page, not an institutional statement, and this review treats it as unverified: no page on fullsail.edu, catalog.fullsail.edu, fullsail.libguides.com or fullsail.libanswers.com names Turnitin as a tool in use, none describes an AI-writing indicator, and none states who sees a similarity report or what weight it carries. Two adjacent facts are recorded for completeness. A search-engine listing for the library's Avoiding Plagiarism guide described a tab titled Turnitin Plagiarism Quiz; the live page at that address now reads "This page is not currently available due to visibility settings" (retrieved Sep 5, 2026), so nothing from it can be quoted. And the university's K-12 outreach program has advertised a Turnitin.com session for high-school teachers, which is a workshop for external educators and says nothing about Full Sail's own pipeline. Full Sail's student portal, Full Sail One (one.fullsail.edu), which the Manual says carries the Support Knowledge Base and the LMS, requires a login and could not be read in this review; if a detector is documented for students, that is the likeliest place, and it is outside what this page can verify.

Named-vendor sweep across fullsail.edu, catalog.fullsail.edu, hub.fullsail.edu, go.fullsail.edu, fullsail.libguides.com and fullsail.libanswers.com found no first-party reference to Turnitin's AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Feedback Studio or Clarity, and none to Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, SafeAssign or Unicheck; the proctoring sweep for Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus (LockDown Browser and Monitor), Examity and ProctorU also came back empty. Category sweep — the Manual's Full Sail One and LMS sections, the Catalog's Online Education and Student Services pages, the library's A-Z database list and LibAnswers FAQ (22 answers, none on detection), the AI for Research and Avoiding Plagiarism guides, and a search of the graduate (master's) pipeline for a thesis or capstone similarity check — turned up no tool. That negative result is stated at the scope actually searched: Full Sail's public domains, this session, not a claim that no such tool exists behind the portal.

02Published process

What Full Sail's own documents say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
Not stated in the sources reviewed. The Student Manual's Appeals Hearing provision says only that “Students may request to be present at the meeting of the Appeals Committee.” — Student Manual, Appeals / Appeals Hearing (edition 06.26; retrieved Sep 5, 2026). Neither the Manual's Academic Dishonesty, Consequence Levels or Appeals sections nor the Catalog's Appeals page names an advisor, support person, representative or attorney, and none addresses recording a meeting or hearing; the portion of the Manual captured as text (through the Library section) contains no such provision, and the later Sexual Harassment Policy and Grievance Procedures section, which was not captured, is a different process from the one this page covers. · Student Manual (PDF) · Catalog — Appeals
What follows on the record
Not stated as to transcript notation or disclosure. The Catalog states “Progress records are permanently maintained by the school.” — Catalog, Progress Records and Reports (Volume XXXV, Edition 5, 7.29.2026; retrieved Sep 5, 2026); the Manual's Satisfactory Progress section says the same: “The school permanently maintains progress records.” The Manual's Consequence Levels section records the effect on the Global Professionalism Standards score: “If a student is placed on Conduct Probation, he or she will lose 10 Campus Professionalism points.” No source in this review states whether an academic-dishonesty finding is noted on a transcript, how long a conduct finding is retained, or whether it is disclosed to graduate programs, employers or licensing boards; the Manual's FERPA section (pp. 80–82 per Full Sail's Student Consumer Information page) lies beyond the portion captured as text. · Catalog — Progress Records and Reports · Student Manual (PDF)

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution’s own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

The Student Manual's Academic Dishonesty section (edition 06.26; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) states the consequences and who decides them:

"For first-time offenders, academic dishonesty will result in non-acceptance of work submitted and a failing grade for the course, as well as the student retaking and paying for the repeated course. Depending on the circumstances, disciplinary action will range from Conduct Probation to dismissal from the program, with determination made by the Program Director and Student Conduct Manager." "Second-time offenders of this policy will be subject to immediate suspension with a dismissal hearing."

The Manual's Mandatory Consequences list, in the Standards of Behavior, places "Academic dishonesty" among the offenses for which "Suspension followed by a penalty hearing will be used" and adds that "Two (2) or more conduct infractions may result in suspension or dismissal." The Catalog's Conduct page states the same reservation in a sentence: "In addition, Full Sail reserves the right to terminate enrollment in the event of cheating, disruptive behavior, substance abuse or destruction of property at studios, offices, classrooms, or any other accommodations arranged by Full Sail." No section captured states how a suspected violation is reported, how or when the student is notified, whether a meeting with the student precedes the determination, or what standard of proof applies; the Manual's Pink Slips provision describes how staff summon a campus student, and says that "[i]n lieu of a pink slip, online students may be locked out of the LMS and asked to speak with a Full Sail administrator."

The appeal path is stated in the Manual's Appeals Procedure:

"A request for appeal must be submitted in writing by the student. The letter should be addressed to the Director of Student Development and may be mailed or delivered to the Education department receptionist. In this letter, students should state the decision being appealed, the circumstances of the appeal, and the action requested. An appeal must be made within 14 days of the initial decision. Failure to do so will result in acceptance of the initial decision."

And the hearing: "If warranted by the appeal request, the Director of Student Development will call a hearing of an Appeals Committee, which will include at least five senior staff members. A decision will be made at the conclusion of the hearing, and the student will be notified of said decision in writing." The Catalog's Appeals page routes the same step slightly differently — "Appeals must be submitted in writing to Academic Advisors" — and describes the committee as "no less than five senior Full Sail administrators including the Program Director for a given student’s particular program of study" and convened "as required by the Director of Advising"; the Manual's Progress Records section separately allows an appeal of a Course Director's grade decision "within seven (7) days of the posting of the grades." Which office receives the letter, and whether the 14-day window in the Manual applies to every decision the Catalog's page covers, is not reconciled in the sources; the two pages are quoted side by side rather than resolved here. Beyond the appeal, the Catalog's Student Complaint/Grievance Procedure (retrieved Sep 5, 2026) describes a Student Concerns form and a Formal Complaint Form obtainable on Full Sail One, by contacting the school, or by email to studentsupport@fullsail.com, reviewed by the Director of Academic Success within thirty days, and it lists the accreditor (ACCSC) and the Florida Commission for Independent Education as external avenues after the internal process. What any of this means for a particular case is for the institution and its process to determine.

Revision history of this page

2026-09-05 — Page created. Detection-inventory sweep run first: named-vendor sweep across fullsail.edu, catalog.fullsail.edu, hub.fullsail.edu, go.fullsail.edu, fullsail.libguides.com and fullsail.libanswers.com found no first-party reference to Turnitin (AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Feedback Studio, Clarity), Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, SafeAssign or Unicheck, and none to Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity or ProctorU; category sweep of the Student Manual's Full Sail One and LMS sections, the Catalog's Online Education and Student Services pages, the library's A-Z database list, LibAnswers FAQ, AI for Research and Avoiding Plagiarism guides, and the master's-level pipeline found no tool. The only Turnitin documentation is Turnitin's own 2018 customer story, treated as unverified and not quoted; a search-engine listing's Turnitin Plagiarism Quiz tab on the library's plagiarism guide resolves to a visibility notice and is recorded as such; the K-12 outreach Turnitin workshop is noted as external-educator training, not a deployment. Disqualification check run on that completed inventory: Full Sail publishes no statement enabling, disabling or recommending against AI detection, so the finding is an absence stated at the scope searched, not an exclusion. Captured first-party this date: the Student Manual PDF (edition 06.26) — the fetch tool returned the first ~125,500 characters, through the Library section (manual pp. 1–47), which covers every section quoted; the Student Services, Student Concerns and FERPA sections beyond that point were not captured as text and are recorded as unread; the Catalog's Appeals, Conduct, Student Complaint/Grievance Procedure, Progress Records and Reports and Student Services pages (Volume XXXV, Edition 5, 7.29.2026); the library's Avoiding Plagiarism guide (last updated Jul 28, 2026) and AI for Research guide (last updated Oct 30, 2025); the fullsail.edu Artificial Intelligence and Student Consumer Information pages. Full Sail One (one.fullsail.edu), including the Ace Your Work with Integrity story the library guide links and the Support Knowledge Base the Manual describes, sits behind SSO and could not be read; nothing from it is quoted or paraphrased. No ombuds or student-advocacy office was located on Full Sail's own pages in this review (searched: ombuds, ombudsman, student advocate, student advocacy; the Manual's table of contents; the Catalog's Student Services and Student Complaint/Grievance pages); the Student Resolutions team and Director of Academic Success named in the complaint procedure are part of the institution's own administration and are not characterized here beyond what the pages say. Deliberately omitted: any vendor or tool name on Full Sail's behalf, for want of first-party confirmation; the Manual's grade-appeal and GPS-score appeal provisions except where quoted; the Title IX and Sexual Harassment procedures, which are a different process.
