Keiser University.
- Detection status
- Turnitin and SafeAssign named as the plagiarism-detection software run in courses (Writing Studio and library guidance); SafeAssign in Blackboard per a program handbook; no AI-writing-detection tool or proctoring vendor located; the catalog states it is the student's responsibility to provide proof of originality
- Office in these sources
- No central academic-integrity or student-conduct office is named in these sources — the Undergraduate Catalog assigns the determination and sanction to the instructor and routes an appeal as a written petition to the Campus Director of Student Services · no phone or email stated in these sources for that office · keiseruniversity.edu/catalog
- Ombuds or advocacy office
- Keiser University Ombudsman (named in the Undergraduate Catalog's Counseling section) · toll free 1-866-549-9550 · no email stated in these sources · “can connect you with campus and community services which include; community counseling services, free legal services, medical assistance and the institutions formal grievance process” per the Student Well-Being flyer · keiseruniversity.edu/pdf/Student-Well-Being.pdf

Keiser University's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted in brief and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — the Undergraduate Catalog's Student Conduct Policies (Academic Honesty Policy, Specific Uses of Artificial Intelligence, Sanctions, Grievance Procedures) are the governing text for undergraduates and the Graduate Catalog carries a parallel text with a different sanction ladder; the catalog's own AI provision says the university's position "is therefore evolving and subject to change"; program handbooks supplement the catalog for individual programs; the Flagship Campus Student Handbook adds a residential-campus judicial process that applies only there; the Writing Studio and library guides are student-facing guidance, not policy; and the catalog states that AI use outside "the boundaries of the assignment as described in the syllabus or other formal course instructions" is a violation, so individual syllabi set the terms. Confirm applicability with the institution. Any dates or deadlines are quoted from the sources, not a deadline calculation performed for you.
What is documented — and what isn't
Keiser names two plagiarism-detection tools in student-facing guidance, and neither is described by Keiser as an AI-writing detector. The Writing Studio's "Avoiding Plagiarism" handout (undated PDF on keiseruniversity.edu; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) lists, among its tips:
The same text appears on the Keiser Library's APA Format guide, "Avoiding Plagiarism" tab, credited "(From the Keiser University Graduate Online Writing Studio)" (keiseruniversity.libguides.com, last updated Oct 28, 2025; retrieved Sep 5, 2026 by browser read). Both pages describe the tools as software "in your course" — the Blackboard Learn course environment, which Keiser's Blackboard page (modified Apr 7, 2026; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) describes as "the official online learning management system (LMS) used by Keiser University" without naming any integrated tool. Neither page states who sees a report, what score matters, or how a report is weighed in an academic-honesty inquiry.
SafeAssign is documented separately as a subscription built into Blackboard, but in a program-specific document: the Master of Science in Nutrition with Distance Learning Internship handbook (First Edition, adopted October 2015, revisions through 7/5/18; retrieved Sep 5, 2026), which states that "[i]n order to deter plagiarism and ensure appropriate use of resources in intern’s research and learning, the university subscribes to a plagiarism prevention services, SafeAssign which is built into Blackboard." That handbook says of itself that its content "is program specific and supplements the information contained in the institutional catalog"; the sentence names the university as the subscriber, but the document's scope is that program. The Writing Studio's Plagiarism Quiz (modified Oct 8, 2024; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) refers in an answer key to "plagiarism checkers like SafeAssign" scanning "for matching text" — a similarity check, in Keiser's own description.
Turnitin's AI writing indicator, or any other AI-writing detector, is not documented as deployed anywhere in this review. The one AI-detector name on Keiser's pages is a library link: the Keiser Library's "Topic : AI : Usage & Tools" guide (last updated Sep 2, 2026; retrieved Sep 5, 2026 by browser read) lists "ZeroGPT AI Detector" under Further Reading with the one-line description "Detects usage of AI." That is a library guide listing a third-party website alongside Microsoft, OpenAI, IBM, Brown and University of Arizona links; it is not a statement that Keiser runs ZeroGPT, and the guide's other tabs (AI in Education, AI Plugins for Education, Citing Generative AI, AI Doctoral Research Companion, Ethics) name no detector at all.
What the governing document says instead is where the burden sits. The Undergraduate Catalog's Student Conduct Policies (2025-2026, accessible text edition, Volume 25 No.1; retrieved Sep 5, 2026 by browser read — the PDF edition on the same catalog page is labelled Volume 25 No.2, effective January 30, 2026, and could not be captured as text past its front matter) carry a section headed "Specific Uses of Artificial Intelligence (AI)":
The same section opens by stating that "[t]he position of the university on AI is therefore evolving and subject to change." The catalog's list of dishonest acts names AI three times — "using AI tools to assist in the development of writing or problem solutions during an examination or an assignment" among them — and the Graduate Catalog (2025-2026, Volume 13 No.1; retrieved Sep 5, 2026 by browser read) carries the same AI definitions and provision. No catalog passage names a detection tool, a score, or a threshold; a vendor-name search of both catalogs' full text returned nothing.
On proctoring, the Undergraduate Catalog's Testing section says only that "[i]n certain cases, students may be assigned to local test centers where local proctors or professional test sites have been secured." Keiser's Center for Augmented Intelligence site (ai.keiseruniversity.edu, "Est. 2026 · Graduate School"; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) states that "[e]very program operates within a Responsible AI Use Framework developed by the Center" and refers to "academic-integrity guidance", but publishes neither the framework nor any detection statement.
Named-vendor sweep across keiseruniversity.edu, ai.keiseruniversity.edu and keiseruniversity.libguides.com — including full-text searches of both catalogs, the Flagship handbook and the Nutrition program handbook, and the LibGuides site search for each name — found no reference to Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, Packback, Grammarly Authorship or Unicheck as a deployed tool, and no reference to Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus or Examity; ZeroGPT appears only as the library link above, and a LibGuides "AI Plugins for Education" tab describes GrammarlyEDU as a writing assistant, not as authorship detection. Category sweep — the Blackboard Learn page, the catalog's Testing section (the proctoring stack), the graduate/dissertation pipeline (the Graduate Catalog's Dissertation Progress Policy and the library's AI Doctoral Research Companion tab), the Writing Studio, and the library guides — turned up only the Turnitin and SafeAssign references described above. No IT service catalogue or supported-software list was located on Keiser's public pages; no Keiser LibAnswers site was located. That negative result is stated at the scope actually searched: Keiser's own public domains, this session, not a claim that no such tool exists anywhere at Keiser.

What Keiser's own documents say about how cases proceed
- Who may be present
- Not stated in the sources reviewed. The Undergraduate Catalog's Academic Honesty Policy says only that a student “has a right to procedural due process where the student has notice and an opportunity to be heard,” and its Grievance Procedures describe the Committee's composition and the Director of Student Services as “the facilitator/moderator of the grievance hearing and a non-voting member of the proceedings” — neither names an advisor, support person, or attorney for the student, and neither addresses recording. The Flagship Campus Student Handbook (2025-2026), which governs that residential campus's separate judicial process for conduct matters, states that “[a]ll Student Conduct Meetings and Campus Conduct Board hearings will be conducted in private and are closed to the public” and that “[w]itnesses must be members of the campus community,” and is likewise silent on recording; that handbook says of academic dishonesty that “Flagship Campus adheres to the KU policy for process and discipline.” Searched: both catalogs' Student Conduct Policies, Grievance Procedures and Student Records sections; the Flagship handbook's Laws and Judicial Process section; the HEOA complaint page. · Undergraduate Catalog 2025-2026 (text edition; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) · Flagship Campus Student Handbook 2025-2026 (PDF; retrieved Sep 5, 2026)
- What follows on the record
- “Disciplinary records are maintained by the Office of the Academic Dean at each location.” — Undergraduate Catalog 2025-2026, Student Records Policy (accessible text edition, Volume 25 No.1; retrieved Sep 5, 2026). The same section states that “[s]tudent records are typically maintained by the University for 5 years after a student graduates or withdraws, unless a programmatically accredited agency requires additional years,” and that all programs “are to permanently maintain enrollment agreements, financial aid records, transcripts, and grievances/conclusions.” Keiser's HEOA complaint page (modified Jan 18, 2026) adds that “[r]ecords of grievances procedures along with consequential actions are maintained at the Office of the Chancellor.” No provision on transcript notation of an academic-honesty finding was located in either catalog's Student Conduct Policies, Student Records or Transcripts sections; disclosure is addressed only through the catalog's FERPA consent language, and no source in this review addresses disclosure of a finding to graduate programs, employers, or licensing boards. · Undergraduate Catalog 2025-2026 (text edition) · HEOA Student Complaint Process
The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution’s own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.
Keiser publishes no separate integrity-office procedure; the process sits in the catalog's Student Conduct Policies. Per the Undergraduate Catalog's Sanctions for Violating the Academic Honesty Policy (2025-2026, accessible text edition; retrieved Sep 5, 2026), the instructor makes the determination and sets the sanction:
The catalog adds that "[a]ll progressive disciplinary measures described above are cumulative throughout the program and not limited to occurrences within a specific course or term", and that dismissed students "may reapply to Keiser University after remaining out of school for one full semester." Plagiarism carries its own ladder in the undergraduate text — an automatic F on the assignment, then the course, then dismissal for partially plagiarized work; F for the course, then dismissal, for entirely plagiarized work. The Graduate Catalog (2025-2026, Volume 13 No.1; retrieved Sep 5, 2026) states the ladder with softer verbs and a first rung the undergraduate text lacks: "The student must revise and resubmit the assignment for a lower grade", with the third occurrence of an academic integrity violation stated as one that "may result in an automatic dismissal", and it distinguishes level one plagiarism — "due to carelessness, ignorance, inexperience and unfamiliarity with academic environment and APA standards" — from level two. Neither catalog states a standard of proof for the instructor's determination, a notification method, or a time limit for the instructor to act; the only evidentiary standard located on a Keiser page is the Flagship Campus handbook's "more likely than not", and that handbook applies it to the residential campus's conduct process, which it says is the KU policy's process for academic dishonesty by cross-reference only.
The appeal is the Grievance Committee. The catalog states (Academic Honesty Policy) that "[i]f the administration has to take disciplinary measures against a student or other action related to the student, the student may appeal the decision to the Grievance Committee", and its Grievance Procedures set the window and the filing route:
The Committee's voting members are "two (2) faculty members, two (2) staff members, and one (1) student", described as "non-biased participants"; it will "hear evidence, ask questions, review the catalog/handbook policies, deliberate and render an advisory ruling that, upon approval by the Office of the Chancellor, will become binding upon the administration as well as the student who filed the grievance." The Grievance Procedures then list external contacts — the Florida Department of Education's Office of Articulation, the FL-SARA PRDEC Council for out-of-state distance-education students "who have completed the internal institutional grievance process and the applicable state grievance process", and the California Department of Consumer Affairs — which Keiser's HEOA complaint page (modified Jan 18, 2026) repeats alongside a written-complaint route to the Campus President and the Ombudsman's number. The catalog names its Ombudsman in the Counseling section — "Reverend Dr. Louise Morley, Keiser University’s Ombudsman, can be reached toll free at 1-866-549-9550" — without describing the office's role; the Student Well-Being flyer (last updated Apr 2026) describes it as connecting students with services "which include; community counseling services, free legal services, medical assistance and the institutions formal grievance process." The Flagship handbook, for that campus only, also lists "the University Ombudsman" as one party a student may be required to consult under a "Mandated Counseling Assessment" sanction. What any of this means for a particular case is for the institution and its process to determine.

Revision history of this page
2026-09-05 — Page created. Detection-inventory sweep run first: named-vendor sweep across keiseruniversity.edu, ai.keiseruniversity.edu and keiseruniversity.libguides.com (full-text searches of the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalog text editions, the Flagship Campus Student Handbook and the Nutrition program handbook; LibGuides site search for each vendor name) found Turnitin and SafeAssign named as "plagiarism detection software in your course" in the Writing Studio handout and the library's APA guide, SafeAssign as a Blackboard-integrated subscription in the Nutrition program handbook, and ZeroGPT as a third-party link on the library's AI guide; no reference to Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, Packback, Grammarly Authorship or Unicheck as a deployed tool, and no reference to Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus or Examity. Category sweep — the Blackboard Learn page (names no tool), the catalog's Testing section (local proctors only), the graduate/dissertation pipeline (Graduate Catalog dissertation policies; library AI Doctoral Research Companion tab), the Writing Studio, the library guides and the Center for Augmented Intelligence site — added nothing; no IT service catalogue, supported-software list or LibAnswers site was located. Disqualification check run on that completed inventory: Keiser publishes no statement disabling or recommending against AI detection, and two similarity tools are named as in use, so the page was built; the finding is that Keiser documents similarity checking, not AI-writing detection, and that its catalog assigns the student "responsibility to provide proof of originality." Captured first-party this date: the Undergraduate Catalog accessible text edition (Volume 25 No.1) and the Graduate Catalog accessible text edition (Volume 13 No.1), both read in full in the browser after the fetch tool truncated them; the catalog landing page; the Writing Studio Avoiding Plagiarism PDF and Plagiarism Quiz page; the Nutrition program handbook PDF; the Flagship Campus Student Handbook PDF; the HEOA complaint page; the Student Well-Being flyer; the Blackboard Learn page; the Center for Augmented Intelligence page; and two LibGuides pages by browser read, the fetch tool returning nothing for LibGuides. Not captured: the Undergraduate Catalog PDF edition (Volume 25 No.2, effective January 30, 2026) beyond its front matter and table of contents — the fetch tool truncated it before the Student Conduct Policies — and the four undergraduate and five graduate catalog addenda; all catalog quotations on this page are from the accessible text editions Keiser publishes on the same page, and the No.2 wording is pending a manual read before promotion. The Slideshare presentation by a Keiser program director on Turnitin that appears in search results is third-party-hosted and was not used. The Flagship handbook's "more likely than not" standard, closed-hearing rule and 72-business-hour appeal are stated on the page with their scope — that residential campus's judicial process — rather than as university-wide academic-honesty rules. The Ombudsman is listed in the docket as published, with the Student Well-Being flyer's own description; the Flagship handbook's listing of the Ombudsman under a counseling-assessment sanction is noted in section 02 and no characterization of the office's independence is made.
