Louisiana Tech University.
- Detection status
- Turnitin confirmed for similarity checking only ("compared to a database of Web pages, newspapers, journals, books, and other students' papers"); no AI-writing-detection feature or any other AI-text detector is named anywhere on latech.edu, and the Academic Honor Code itself does not mention generative AI
- Office in these sources
- Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity · Adam Collins, Director · 333 Keeny Hall, PO Box 3035, Ruston, LA 71272 · 318-257-3396 · acollins@latech.edu
- Ombuds or advocacy office
- None located on the institution's own pages in this review. A search for "ombudsman" surfaced a same-named office at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette — a different institution — which was not used.
- Sources last checked
- Sep 27, 2026

Louisiana Tech's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. No AI-writing detector confirmed; Turnitin is similarity-only
A named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and a category sweep (the IT Help Desk knowledge base, the Center for Instructional Technology's teaching-resources page, and the Academic Honor Code) found Turnitin confirmed for similarity checking, ProctorU confirmed for exam proctoring, and no AI-text detector named anywhere on latech.edu.
The Help Desk's Turnitin article (last updated Apr 3, 2024; retrieved Sep 27, 2026) states:
Source: Turnitin — Help Desk. Separately, the Center for Instructional Technology's teaching-resources page (retrieved Sep 27, 2026) links instructor-facing videos on "AI & Plagiarism" and related AI topics, but names no detection product; and ProctorU is described only for identity verification and webcam/screen monitoring during online exams — exam proctoring, not text detection. What the Academic Honor Code says about how cases proceed
- Who may be present
- "Both the accuser and the accused will be informed that he/she may bring one representative (either personal or legal counsel) who may attend and advise the student but may not present the student's case." Hearings are recorded: "The proceedings will be tape recorded. Only one official recording will be permitted." — Academic Honor Code, Section Six, University Catalog 2026-2027 (retrieved Sep 27, 2026) · Academic Honor Code
- What follows on the record
- Not stated in the sources reviewed beyond the ordinary effect of a course grade. The Honor Code's sanctions (Section Seven) include an "F" grade in the course or on an assignment, administrative probation, or referral for suspension or expulsion, but no separate transcript notation, retention period, or third-party disclosure provision for a Code violation is stated anywhere in the Code or the Catalog's Academic Transcripts section · Academic Honor Code
The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.
From the Academic Honor Code (University Catalog 2026-2027; retrieved Sep 27, 2026), on notice and the hearing itself:
No evidentiary standard (such as a preponderance-of-the-evidence rule) is named anywhere in the Code; it states only that the Council may decide "the evidence of an alleged violation is not compelling enough to find the student in violation." Appeals run in stages, each within three business days of notice: from an instructor's sanction to the Honor Council; from the Honor Council to the Administrative Review Board, which may "approve the recommendation submitted by the Honor Council," "amend and approve the recommendation," or "return the recommendation for further study." Grounds for appeal are "procedural error," "new evidence," "unsupported conclusion," or "disproportionate sanction." Source: Academic Honor Code, Sections Six through Eight. What any of this means for a particular case is for the institution and its process to determine; these are reproduced so you can read the originals in context.

Revision history of this page
2026-09-27 — Page created by a scheduled, unattended build pass. All quotations retrieved this date from catalog.latech.edu, helpdesk.latech.edu and latech.edu pages linked beside them. TRANSPORT NOTE: catalog.latech.edu is a client-rendered CourseLeaf catalog that returns HTTP 202 with an empty body to a plain curl fetch; a live browser session was used instead, and the correct current-catalog address had to be found by hand — the university's own navigation IDs shifted between the 2025-26 catalog (catoid=20) and the 2026-27 catalog (catoid=25) the site now defaults to, and the first URL this pass tried (catoid=20) silently loaded an "[ARCHIVED CATALOG]"-flagged page with older content; the working catoid=25 address is what this page cites throughout. Detection-inventory sweep performed: named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and category sweep (Help Desk knowledge base, CIT teaching resources, Academic Honor Code) both came back empty of any AI-text detector; Turnitin is confirmed similarity-only and ProctorU is confirmed exam-proctoring-only. NOT DISQUALIFIED: an empty inventory with no first-party statement declining, disabling, or recommending against AI detection — the Honor Code does not mention generative AI, ChatGPT, or any AI platform at all, which is itself the finding (contrast Idaho State and UCO earlier in this queue, both of which name generative AI directly). PROCESS SOURCE: the Academic Honor Code, Sections One through Ten, is unusually explicit about the hearing itself (three-day notice, one representative who may advise but not present the case, an official tape recording) but never names an evidentiary standard — searched for "preponderance," "clear and convincing," and "standard of proof," all absent; recorded as a stated absence rather than assumed. THREE-STAGE APPEAL reproduced: instructor sanction to Honor Council, Honor Council recommendation to the Administrative Review Board, each within three business days of notice. RECORD ROW: no transcript-notation, retention, or disclosure provision specific to a Code violation was found; the Catalog's separate "Academic Transcripts" section is generic FERPA/records-request content, not a sanction-notation rule, so the absence is stated rather than inferred from it. OFFICE confirmed first-party on the office's own contact page (Adam Collins, Director; 333 Keeny Hall; 318-257-3396; acollins@latech.edu) rather than the "326 Keeny Hall" / "Office of Student Life" address the Honor Code text itself uses for filing an appeal — both are reproduced, the office's current contact page for the docket, the Code's own filing-address language for the appeal-procedure quotation. OMBUDS FALSE LEAD CAUGHT, not chased: a search for "Louisiana Tech University ombudsman" returned a University Ombudsman page at studentrights.louisiana.edu, which is the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, a separate institution with a similar name — recognized as such and not used; no Louisiana Tech-specific ombuds or student-advocacy office was located. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Subreddit demand scan not run (outside this run's research method). Internet Archive captures: to be added. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-09-27).
