Lehman College.
- Detection status
- Turnitin confirmed for plagiarism/similarity checking (the Center for Teaching and Learning's own Turnitin page is undated and still describes Blackboard, though Lehman moved all courses to Brightspace in summer 2025); Lehman's own Academic Integrity FAQ states "CUNY OAA has not activated" Turnitin's Generative AI detection feature for CUNY, citing false positives — no AI-text detector confirmed as deployed across a named-vendor and category sweep
- Office in these sources
- Academic Integrity Officer (Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Dean of Students) · Shuster Hall, Room 204 · 718-960-8242 · conrad.walker@lehman.cuny.edu
- Ombuds or advocacy office
- Lehman College Senate Bylaws establish an Ombudsman — "a confidential investigator in cases of alleged unfairness or maladministration" who serves as "the impartial spokesman for all parties involved in such cases" — headed by a tenured faculty member on a two-year term; no current officeholder, office location, phone or email for this role is published on Lehman's own pages found in this review. Lehman's general student-concerns channel states it does not cover "Academic Integrity procedures." · Documents of Governance — Lehman College, §15

Turnitin's AI-detection feature exists but CUNY has not activated it
A named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and a category sweep (the Center for Teaching and Learning's Turnitin and Academic Integrity FAQ pages, the Library's Academic Integrity guide, Brightspace support pages, and the undergraduate catalog's Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures) found Turnitin confirmed for plagiarism/similarity checking and no AI-text detector confirmed as deployed.
Lehman's own Academic Integrity FAQ states (page "Last Updated: 10/25/2023"; retrieved Sep 26, 2026):
Source: Academic Integrity FAQs — Center for Teaching and Learning. This is a system-level statement about CUNY's Turnitin instance generally, consistent with the finding recorded earlier in this collection on other CUNY campuses (Hunter, Brooklyn and others) that no AI-generated-content detection runs on that instance — Lehman's own FAQ names the reason (false positives) and the deciding office (CUNY OAA) more specifically than those campuses' pages do.
The Center for Teaching and Learning's separate Turnitin page (no on-page date; retrieved Sep 26, 2026) describes only plagiarism/similarity checking and still names the university's former learning management system:
Source: Turnitin — Center for Teaching and Learning. Lehman's own Brightspace pages describe the migration to Brightspace as effective summer 2025, replacing Blackboard as the college's learning management system (Student Resources — Brightspace, retrieved Sep 26, 2026; page returned no readable body to this pass's capture and is linked rather than quoted), so this Turnitin page has not been updated to reflect that migration; it is reproduced as it currently reads rather than corrected. Your syllabus and assignment instructions are therefore among the relevant sources for your own situation.
What Lehman's and CUNY's own pages say about how cases proceed
- Who may be present
- Lehman's own Academic Integrity Policy does not address representation at the informal, faculty-level stage. Where a student denies the violation and the matter goes to the Student-Faculty Disciplinary Committee under Article XV of the CUNY Bylaws, "[t]he college, the respondent and the complainant are permitted to have lawyers or other representatives or advisors act on their behalf," and the hearing is recorded only by the college: "No other recording of the proceedings may be permitted." — CUNY Bylaws, Article XV, §15.4 (retrieved Sep 26, 2026) · Section 15.4 — Student Disciplinary Procedures
- What follows on the record
- The Academic Integrity Officer "shall place the Form in a confidential academic integrity file created for each student alleged to have violated the Academic Integrity Policy" (the Form being the Faculty Report Form described below), retained "for the purposes of identifying repeat offenders, gathering data, and assessing and reviewing policies"; if the Disciplinary Committee "finds that no violation occurred," the Officer "shall remove all material relating to that incident... and destroy the material." Where a violation is found through the disciplinary track, CUNY Bylaws Article XV requires a transcript notation of "the findings and penalty" unless the resolution "expressly indicate otherwise," removable on request "four years after the conclusion of the disciplinary proceeding or one year after the conclusion of any suspension, whichever is longer." — Lehman College Catalog, Academic Integrity Policy; CUNY Bylaws, Article XV, §15.4 (both retrieved Sep 26, 2026) · Academic Integrity Policy · Section 15.4
The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.
Lehman's 2026–2027 Undergraduate Catalog, Academic Integrity Policy (no on-page revision date; retrieved Sep 26, 2026) describes the process from a faculty report forward:
Source: Academic Integrity Policy — Lehman College Catalog. Where the college seeks a disciplinary sanction (suspension or expulsion) rather than, or in addition to, a grade reduction, the case is processed under CUNY Bylaws Article XV before the Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee, which states the evidentiary standard directly: "The college bears the burden of proving the charge(s) by a preponderance of the evidence." An appeal to the college president "shall be made in writing within fifteen (15) calendar days after the delivery of the decision appealed from," on one of three grounds: "(i) procedural error, (ii) newly discovered evidence that was not reasonably available at the time of the hearing, or (iii) the disproportionate nature of the penalty."

Revision history of this page
2026-09-26 — Page created by a scheduled, unattended build pass. All quotations retrieved this date from the lehman.edu, lehman-undergraduate.catalog.cuny.edu, policy.cuny.edu and cuny.edu pages linked beside them; the Academic Integrity FAQ displays "Last Updated: 10/25/2023," the Library's Academic Integrity guide displays "Last Updated Jun 3, 2026," the Center for Teaching and Learning's Turnitin page and the undergraduate catalog's Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures appendix display no on-page date, and the Documents of Governance PDF states the Bylaws of the Lehman College Senate were "Last Amended January 30, 2014." Detection-inventory sweep performed: named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) of lehman.edu and libguides.lehman.edu, and a category sweep of the Center for Teaching and Learning's Turnitin and Academic Integrity FAQ pages, the Library's Academic Integrity guide, Brightspace support pages, and the catalog's Academic Integrity Policy and Procedures appendix. SUBSTANTIVE FINDING, more specific than this collection's earlier CUNY pages: Lehman's own Academic Integrity FAQ states plainly that Turnitin has a Generative AI detection feature and that "CUNY OAA has not activated" it for CUNY, "[d]ue to inconsistencies with the tool, including false positives and other concerns" — naming both the capability's existence and the deciding office, where the Hostos-hosted Brightspace guide relied on for Hunter and Brooklyn instead described Turnitin as not featuring AI detection at all. NOT TREATED AS A STEP-2 DISQUALIFICATION: the underlying fact (no generative-AI detection currently running on CUNY's Turnitin instance) is the same fact already found, and built rather than excluded, at every other CUNY campus resolved earlier in this queue (Hunter, Brooklyn and others); this page states the sharper, Lehman-sourced version of that same fact rather than reaching a different disposition for one campus in the same university system. This discrepancy between how different CUNY campus pages characterize the identical systemwide fact is flagged here for the owner's attention rather than resolved by editing the earlier pages, which is outside this pass's scope. SECOND FINDING: the Center for Teaching and Learning's own Turnitin page has not been updated for the Brightspace migration and still describes Turnitin as "available in Blackboard," a stale reference reproduced as published rather than silently corrected, with Lehman's own Brightspace Student Resources page (migration effective summer 2025) cited alongside it. PROCESS: the Faculty Report Form process, the academic-sanction/disciplinary-sanction fork, and the confidential-file retention and destruction rule are Lehman's own, from the undergraduate catalog's Academic Integrity Policy; the evidentiary standard, representation right, recording rule, transcript-notation rule and appeal window for cases reaching the Faculty-Student Disciplinary Committee are from CUNY Bylaws Article XV, §15.4, independently re-fetched and re-quoted for this page (the same Bylaws section used for Brooklyn College, reused here as the same CUNY-systemwide provision rather than re-derived). PROVENANCE HANDLED: the catalog's separate "Procedures for Imposition of Sanctions" appendix also contains a distinct "Procedures for Handling Student Complaints about Faculty Conduct in Academic Settings" section (a student complaining about a faculty member, not a student accused of dishonesty) with its own representative and appeal language; that section was read and deliberately NOT used for the "who may be present" or appeal-window answers on this page, since it governs a different kind of case. OMBUDS: Lehman's own governance bylaws (§15, hosted by CUNY) establish an Ombudsman role in the quoted terms, but no current officeholder, office location, phone or email for that role was found published on lehman.edu in this review; a cuny.edu-hosted cross-campus directory names a "Student Advocacy/Ombudsman" contact at Lehman, but that same person's own Lehman College directory listing titles her "CUNY Office Assistant" with no advocacy or ombuds description, so that characterization was not used. Lehman's own "Report a Concern (Students Only)" page states its form cannot be used for "Student Conduct/Discipline... Grade Appeals or Academic Integrity procedures," which is recorded as a scope exclusion rather than an available resource. OFFICE: Academic Integrity Officer contact (Dr. Conrad I. Walker, Shuster Hall Room 204, 718-960-8242, conrad.walker@lehman.cuny.edu) is consistent across the Academic Integrity FAQ, the Academic Integrity Policy, and the Faculty Report Form instructions. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Subreddit demand scan not run (outside this run's research method). Internet Archive captures: to be added. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-09-27).
