Middle Georgia State University's (MGA) published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. A similarity report is named as evidence; no AI-writing detector is named at all

MGA's Academic Conduct Procedures (student-conduct.mga.edu; no on-page revision date beyond a 2026 footer copyright; retrieved Oct 11, 2026) list the documentation a faculty member submits with an Academic Infraction Report, including the student's own submission and "Similar uncredited source documents." The live page's own text names a similarity-report product, though the publisher's own markup drops the vendor name's first word before the suffix, reading only:

"com Similarity Report"

Reproduced exactly as the page itself currently reads, including the apparent truncation — this page quotes the institution's own text rather than correcting it. Source: Academic Conduct Procedures — MGA Student Code of Conduct. This confirms a similarity-report tool is in evidentiary use for academic-conduct cases, but no MGA page reviewed states whether an AI-writing detector — as distinct from a text-similarity report — is enabled, disabled, or in use anywhere on campus.

A named-vendor sweep (Turnitin and its AI writing indicator specifically, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) found no other hit on mga.edu. A category sweep of the full Student Code of Conduct (its Code of Conduct Violations section, read in full, names no detector of any kind in its cheating or plagiarism definitions) and the library's "Artificial Intelligence" research guide (guides.mga.edu/education_AI, including its AI Ethics page) found no AI-writing detector named in either direction — no statement that one is enabled, and no statement that one is disabled or recommended against.

What the Academic Conduct Procedures say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
Either party has the right to "an advisor (who may or may not be an attorney) of the party's choosing, and at their own expense," who "may advise their advisee in any manner, including providing questions, suggestions, and guidance on responses to any questions posed to the advisee, but shall not participate directly during the investigation or hearing process." Recording is not addressed anywhere in the Code reviewed. — Academic Conduct Procedures · Academic Conduct Procedures
What follows on the record
"Other than expulsion or revocation or withholding a degree, sanctions shall not be made a part of the student's permanent academic record but shall become part of the student's conduct record." — Academic Conduct Procedures · Academic Conduct Procedures

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

From the Academic Conduct Procedures (student-conduct.mga.edu; retrieved Oct 11, 2026), on how a case begins and is decided:

"A charge of violation of the Code of Conduct may be filed by any academic or administrative official" and must be reported to the Office of Student Conduct "within fifteen (15) University business days from date of detection." "[W]hether it is more likely than not that a violation of the Code of Conduct occurred."

A student must attend an Administrative Disciplinary Meeting with the faculty member or a Student Conduct Officer, required "for every student." Hearing notice, where a hearing follows, must be given "at least three (3) days prior to the hearing," and a respondent has "at least three (3) University business days to respond to the allegation." Absent a published course-specific minimum, the floor sanction is "a grade of zero for the work involved"; the full range extends through suspension and expulsion, and withdrawing from the course does not avoid a sanction. On appeal, a respondent must act "within five (5) University business days of the date of the final written outcome decision," on grounds including new information, procedural error, or a finding or sanction inconsistent with the weight of the information; an Appeals Body decision may itself be appealed to the President within five business days, and "[t]he President's decision shall be the final decision of the institution," after which a student may request "an Application for Discretionary Review from the University System of Georgia and the Board of Regents," submitted "within 20 calendar days following the final institution decision." Revision history of this page

2026-10-11 — Page created. All quotations retrieved this date from the mga.edu and guides.mga.edu pages linked beside them; the Academic Conduct Procedures and Code of Conduct Violations pages display no on-page revision date beyond a 2026 footer copyright. Named-vendor sweep (Turnitin and its AI writing indicator specifically, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) found no AI-writing detector named anywhere on mga.edu. The one similarity-related item found is in the Academic Conduct Procedures' list of supporting documentation for an Academic Infraction Report, where the live page's own markup reads only "com Similarity Report" rather than naming a vendor — confirmed by reading the raw page source directly, not an extraction artifact on this pass's part; quoted on the page exactly as published, including the apparent truncation. It is recorded as a text-similarity tool, not an AI-writing detector, since nothing on the page claims the latter. Category sweep covered the full Student Code of Conduct (all ten sections, including Code of Conduct Violations' cheating and plagiarism definitions, read in full) and the library's "Artificial Intelligence" research guide (guides.mga.edu/education_AI, including its AI Ethics and GenAI Tools pages); none named an AI-writing detector in either direction. Ombuds/advocacy search ("ombuds," "ombudsperson," "student advocate," "student advocacy") found nothing on mga.edu. Office contact confirmed directly on the Student Code of Conduct's own index and procedures pages: Office of Student Conduct, Student Life Center Room 276, 100 University Parkway, Macon, GA 31206, 478-757-7383, studentconduct@mga.edu. Deliberately not used: two indexed Code-of-Conduct PDF addresses (2025-2026 and 2026-2027 filenames) that both returned a soft "Not Found" page on a direct, dated fetch this pass; the live HTML Code at mga.edu/student-conduct/ was used instead, and is current per its own site navigation. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Archive captures pending. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-10-11).
