PVAMU's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — students are directed to follow "the instructor's rules and processes related to academic integrity as directed in the course syllabi and related course documents," so your own syllabus may add detail. Confirm applicability with the institution. Any dates are quoted from the sources, not a deadline calculation performed for you.
No AI-text detector is confirmed deployed institution-wide at PVAMU
The Center for Instructional Innovation and Technology Services (CIITS) publishes separate pages on using Turnitin for students and for instructors (both last modified Sep 2, 2026; retrieved Oct 5, 2026). Both describe the Turnitin External Tool and the Turnitin Plagiarism Framework inside Canvas, and both discuss only similarity checking: "A similarity report is generated and the assignment can be used with Canvas's group and peer reviewing functions." Neither page uses the words "AI," "artificial intelligence," or "AI writing" anywhere in its text. Sources: Turnitin for Students; Turnitin for Instructors.
CIITS separately hosts PantherX AI, described as "PVAMU's initiative to harness the power of artificial intelligence for institutional innovation, student success, and scholarly research" (page last modified Sep 17, 2026; retrieved Oct 5, 2026) — a campus AI-strategy and research initiative, not a detection program; it makes no statement about screening student writing for AI use. Source: PantherX AI.
The one first-party statement located that names an AI-detection feature of Turnitin is a single instructor's own course syllabus (ENGL 3304, Fall 2024), under that instructor's "Course Procedures & Instructor Policies": "Turnitin can now detect AI generated writing and sends instructors an AI report that students cannot see. Work marked as AI generated will not be accepted." This is instructor-specific course policy, not a university IT or academic-affairs statement that the feature is enabled campus-wide, and it is not generalized into a detection finding here. The same syllabus also reproduces PVAMU's general syllabus insert on generative AI (quoted in Section 02 below), which states a University expectation but names no detection tool. Source, cited for this specific statement only: ENGL 3304 Syllabus, Fall 2024 (PDF).
A named-vendor sweep of pvamu.edu (Turnitin, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) and a category sweep (CIITS's Turnitin, Students, and PantherX AI pages, the Academic Integrity pages, and the University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity) found no second AI-text detector and no institution-wide statement that Turnitin's AI-writing module itself is enabled.
What PVAMU's own pages say about how cases proceed
- Who may be present
- "Right to have an observer present during the hearing. The observer cannot be a witness in the hearing or represent the student in the hearing." Separately: "If the student wishes to have a representative (advisor, parent, etc.) present at a hearing before an instructor or academic integrity review committee, they may do so." Whether a hearing is recorded is not stated in the sources reviewed. — University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity (Date Effective: May 2021; filename indicates an Aug 2023 revision; retrieved Oct 5, 2026) · University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity (PDF)
- What follows on the record
- Not stated in the sources reviewed. No transcript-notation, retention-period, or disclosure provision was located anywhere in the Guidelines as captured. · University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity (PDF)
The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.
The University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity (retrieved Oct 5, 2026) state the standard a hearing applies: "A finding that the PVAMU Honor Code was violated will not be made without information showing that it is … more likely than not that a violation occurred." (the PDF's own rotated page-number stamp falls between "is" and "more," and is elided as pagination structure, not text) A charged student has, among other rights: "Right to a written notice of the charges at least three (3) working days before the hearing may proceed," "Right to reasonable access to the case file," "Right to review all evidence and question any witness against the student," and "Right to present evidence and/or witnesses on their behalf." The hearing panel decides "responsibility (by a simple majority vote) based on the preponderance of evidence presented at the hearing" and is instructed to "conduct the hearing as an educational hearing and not as an adversarial proceeding." Sanctions "will generally range from a letter of reprimand to expulsion, depending upon the severity of the offense."
On appeal: "A student found responsible for academic misconduct by an AIRB hearing panel or administrative conference has five (5) University business days after being notified of the decision to request an appeal review in writing to the Provost's Office," on one of three stated grounds — a due-process violation, new evidence unavailable at the hearing, or a sanction "inconsistent with one's conduct or with case precedent." "The Academic Integrity appeal is not a hearing but a review of all case documentation only." PVAMU's general syllabus insert on generative AI, reproduced in individual course syllabi, separately states the University's expectation: "Prairie View A&M University expects that all work produced for a grade in any course, be it face-to-face or virtual, will be the sole product of a student's endeavors to meet those academic goals," and that using AI beyond what an instructor permits "clearly violates the University's Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity." Source: University Administrative Guidelines on Academic Integrity (PDF). What any of this means for a particular case is for the institution and its process to determine.

Organizing your own drafts and records to bring to any of this: the records checklist. Capturing the pages above as they read today, and keeping your own dated record beside them: what to do with these sources.
Revision history of this page
2026-10-05 — Page created. All quotations retrieved this date from the pvamu.edu pages and PDF linked beside them; source pages carried their own dates of Sep 2, 2026 (Turnitin for Students, Turnitin for Instructors, Academic Integrity), Sep 17, 2026 (PantherX AI), and the Guidelines PDF's "Date Effective: May 2021" with a filename indicating an August 2023 revision. TRANSPORT NOTE: pvamu.edu's web application firewall returned HTTP 403 to a plain curl fetch with no browser-equivalent Accept/Referer headers; a fuller browser-like header set (full Chrome user-agent, Accept, Accept-Language, and a same-site Referer) succeeded at HTTP 200 on every page needed. DETECTION FINDING, DELIBERATELY NOT GENERALIZED: a web search surfaced "Turnitin can now detect AI generated writing and sends instructors an AI report that students cannot see," which traced back not to a CIITS or IT page but to one instructor's own ENGL 3304 syllabus, under a section headed "Course Procedures & Instructor Policies." Both CIITS pages governing Turnitin use (Turnitin for Students, Turnitin for Instructors) describe only the Similarity Report workflow and use neither "AI" nor "artificial intelligence" anywhere in their text; PantherX AI is a research/strategy initiative, not a detection program. The syllabus statement is reproduced in Section 01 and attributed to the one instructor who wrote it, not read onto the institution. This is a genuinely unresolved inventory (not a confirmed deployment, and not a confirmed absence, since CIITS could have the feature enabled without a public page saying so) rather than a clean negative; it is recorded as the sweep found it. OFFICE: the Academic Integrity pages name "the Academic Integrity Review Board (AIRB) Chair at academicintegrity@pvamu.edu" and no other contact; the only phone number appearing on any page captured, (936) 261-3311, is the University's general switchboard printed in every page's footer, not an AIRB-specific line, and is not substituted here. OMBUDS/ADVOCACY: PVAMU's own "Ombudsperson" office is explicitly scoped to "faculty and staff" ("a CONFIDENTIAL resource for faculty and staff") and is excluded on that basis; the separate Student Advocate (Student Affairs, a different division from Academic Affairs/AIRB) is a general navigation-and-resources role, not described as independent, confidential, or specific to academic-integrity matters, and is presented in the docket scoped exactly that way rather than as an ombuds. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Archive captures pending. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-10-05).
