No AI-text detector is deployed; Turnitin was discontinued after June 30, 2024, and Blackboard SafeAssign is confirmed for plagiarism checking only; a teaching-center page describes ZeroGPT/GPTZero as third-party web tools "not available in Blackboard," cautioning about high false-positive and false-negative rates

Stockton's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — course syllabi and department rules may also apply, and each faculty member is charged with defining additional course-level criteria. No AI-text detector is deployed; Turnitin was discontinued in 2024

The Center for Teaching & Learning Design's "Instructional Tools" page (retrieved Oct 10, 2026, no page-stated date) states, under Grading Tools:

"Blackboard's SafeAssign and Annotate are tools that promote easy and effective faculty grading of student assignments submitted in Blackboard." "Stockton University provides faculty with access to Turnitin and Blackboard SafeAssign and Annotate, a list of features available from these tools are compared in this document. Turnitin will not be available for use after June 30. 2024."

SafeAssign is described only as a plagiarism-checking tool (a "Plagiarism: What is SafeAssign?" item on the same page), with no AI-writing-detection claim. The page's own "AI Detection" entry addresses two third-party tools rather than anything Stockton deploys:

"ZeroGPT is one of many tools that may be used to detect the use of generative AI such as ChatGPT or Bing. ZeroGPT and GPTZero are web-based tools (not available in Blackboard) that allow you to copy and paste text that is reviewed to determine if the text content is generated by AI tools or written by a human. The use of these tools by students prior to submission can negate the effectiveness of using these tools. Additionally, the tools have high rates of false positive and negative results and may not accurately identify the true origin of the text. Although AI detection tools may be useful in certain circumstances, faculty are advised to discuss the expectations regarding generative AI use with their students, review expectations to properly cite or attribute work created by AI, and place information in the syllabus regarding plagiarism, use of AI, and any impact on grading or course completion."

Source: Instructional Tools — Center for Teaching & Learning Design. ZeroGPT and GPTZero are presented explicitly as tools not integrated into Blackboard — a faculty member could use them independently, but Stockton does not license or deploy either, and this is teaching-center guidance rather than a statement embedded in the Student Academic Honesty procedure described in section 02, which names no detection tool at all. A named-vendor sweep (SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) found no other hit.

What Stockton's Student Academic Honesty procedure says about how cases proceed

Who may be present
"If an attorney or other individual acting as counsel representing either of the involved parties chooses to be present at the hearing, he/she may not address the Board or respond in any way to anyone but his/her client." Recording is addressed directly: "testimony of both the student and the faculty member will be recorded at the hearing." — Student Academic Honesty, Procedure 2005 (Effective Dates through June 4, 2017) · 2005: Student Academic Honesty
What follows on the record
"It is possible that a first or second offense may carry a sanction of suspension or expulsion, which will be recorded on the student's academic transcript, marking a permanent record of the offense." Where a charge is uncontested and not repeated, "this charge of dishonesty shall be removed from the student's permanent file upon the student's graduation." — Procedure 2005 · 2005: Student Academic Honesty

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

From Procedure 2005, Student Academic Honesty (Procedure Administrator: Provost; Effective Dates October 1, 1990 through June 4, 2017; retrieved Oct 10, 2026), on how a faculty member brings a charge:

"Upon suspicion and personal corroboration of any form of academic dishonesty, including that which may be unintentional, the faculty member may determine the appropriate way of dealing with the student." "If punitive action is taken (i.e., reducing the student's grade on the assignment or in the course), the faculty member shall notify the Office of the Provost by submitting an Academic Honesty Report. […] The notification of this charge and the sanction given must be brought within five (5) business days of personal corroboration of academic dishonesty."

Personal corroboration may include "[s]earches of materials such as books, magazines, or blog posts to detect originality of the submitted work" or "[u]se of other electronic tools to detect plagiarism" — generic categories, naming no specific product. A student has "a maximum of ten (10) business days" to appeal; an appeal "will result in an Academic Honesty Appeals Board hearing," composed of faculty and students, which decides by majority vote and sends a written recommendation to the Provost "within three (3) business days of the hearing." "The recommendation of the Academic Honesty Appeals Board is forwarded to the Provost, who makes the final decision. At this point, the case generally is resolved within thirty (30) days or less." No evidentiary standard (such as "preponderance") is named anywhere in the procedure; the Board "determines whether or not to find the student responsible... based upon all of the evidence presented." Revision history of this page

2026-10-10 — Page created. All quotations retrieved this date from the stockton.edu and policiesandprocedures.catalog.stockton.edu pages linked beside them; Procedure 2005 carries its own "Effective Date: October 1, 1990; July 1, 2010; June 5, 2014; May 7, 2015; June 4, 2017," and the CTLD Instructional Tools page displays no on-page date. Named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SafeAssign, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) confirmed Turnitin's own discontinuation date (June 30, 2024) and SafeAssign as the current plagiarism tool; ZeroGPT and GPTZero are named only as third-party web tools explicitly "not available in Blackboard." Category sweep covered the Richard E. Bjork Library's Citation Tools and GenAI guide pages (named-vendor-swept; not independently read in full this pass — paraphrase-pending) and a search for "ombuds"/"student advocate"/"student advocacy," which returned nothing. The Stockton University Academic Bulletin's section on graduate Academic Integrity Committees (Step 5a of Procedure 2005) was located but not independently fetched this pass; nothing on this page relies on it. Nothing else paraphrase-pending. Archive captures pending. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-10-10).
