UAA's published sources on AI detection and academic integrity, quoted and linked below. These are potentially relevant official sources, not a determination of which one governs any case — course syllabi and department rules may also apply, and UAA's own pages state that AI-use rules for an assignment are set by the instructor. Confirm applicability with the institution. Any dates are quoted from the sources, not a deadline calculation performed for you.

No AI-writing detector is documented for coursework at UAA

Named-vendor sweep of uaa.alaska.edu and catalog.uaa.alaska.edu (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) found no current statement that any of these is deployed as an AI-writing detector for student coursework. ITS's own tools listing states plainly what is available, and it is not that (page dated 2025-03-03 in a linked risk-assessment file; retrieved Sep 29, 2026):

"Supported AI Tools The following tools are supported either as integrated features within other supported systems or by purchasing a license through ITS. […] Zoom AI Companion Anthology Blackboard AI MS CoPilot (w/License) Google Gemini Enterprise/Education (w/License) NotebookLM (Included in Google Workspace for Education)"

Source: AI Resources — Information Technology Services. None of the five is a detection tool; all are drafting or productivity assistants.

Category sweep of UAA's LMS tool listing, IT service catalogue, teaching-center and library guidance found the same result. ITS's own core-tools page for Blackboard names a plagiarism tool and a proctoring tool, and names neither as AI-writing detection (page filed under "ITS Archive"; retrieved Sep 29, 2026):

"3rd party tools available inside Blackboard Learn* Kaltura Media (video sharing/streaming) Flickr/Slideshare/YouTube Mashups Honorlock (online test proctoring) SafeAssign (plagiarism prevention service) VoiceThread (multimedia asynchronous discussions) Ally (accessibility checker) Zoom web/video conferencing"

Source: UAA Core Tools — Information Technology Services (Archive). The UAA/APU Consortium Library's "Artificial Intelligence (AI)" research guide, last updated Aug 27, 2026, addresses only how to define and cite AI use — it treats an AI-written paper as a form of plagiarism and covers citation style, and names no detection tool. Source: Artificial Intelligence (AI) — UAA/APU Consortium Library (retrieved Sep 29, 2026).

One narrower, scoped use of an unnamed detection tool was found outside coursework, in the College of Business and Public Policy's own scholarship-application instructions — identical wording on two separate scholarships (retrieved Sep 29, 2026; neither page carries an on-page revision date, and each states an application deadline for the prior application cycle, Nov 10 and Nov 17, 2025):

"These essays must reflect your original thoughts. The Scholarship Committee reserves the right to assess the fairness of AI use in applications. Applicants must disclose how AI was used in their essay responses, and AI detection tools will be used to ensure compliance. Failure to follow these guidelines may impact the evaluation of your application."

Source: Seawolf Investment Fund Scholarship — CBPP and CBPP Dean's Competitive Administrative Scholarship. CBPP does not name a vendor, and this statement is scoped to the essay responses submitted with these two scholarship applications; it is not a statement about detection in coursework, and it is not evidence that any of the named-vendor tools above are the "AI detection tools" referenced.

What UAA's own pages say about how cases proceed

Who may be present
"A student may be accompanied by an advocate of their choice during student conduct proceedings." — Student Conduct Review Procedures, UAA Student Handbook (2026-2027 catalog edition; no on-page revision date; retrieved Sep 29, 2026). UAA's Dean of Students Office separately trains and lists named Student Conduct Advocates who can attend the administrative review with a student; recording of the review itself is not addressed either way in the sources reviewed.
What follows on the record
Not stated in the sources reviewed. The Student Conduct Review Procedures describe written findings, notification, and — for a major sanction — referral up to the MAU senior student services professional and, on further recommendation, the Chancellor, but state no transcript notation, retention period, or third-party or licensing-board disclosure rule. UAA's "Faculty Guide to Student Academic Integrity," which might otherwise address this, is currently unavailable: its own page states "This document is under review."

The two questions an adviser raises first, answered from this institution's own published documents — or recorded as not stated in them.

From the Student Conduct Review Procedures, part of the UAA Student Handbook in the current (2026-2027) academic catalog (no on-page revision date; retrieved Sep 29, 2026):

"Any university student, faculty, staff member, or community member may report an alleged violation of the Code. Allegations of Code violations must be in writing and submitted to the student conduct administrator in accordance with MAU rules and procedures. Though anonymous complaints are permitted, doing so may limit the university's ability to investigate and respond to a complaint." "The student conduct administrator will send the student written notification: […] of whether a major or minor sanction is likely to be imposed should the allegations be substantiated by a preponderance of the evidence" "The administrative review is an opportunity for the students to present relevant information, names of witnesses and/or witness statements, relevant explanations, and/or mitigating factors for the alleged violation." "Appeals must be submitted in writing within seven days of the day the decision is sent to the student, and in accordance with MAU rules and procedures." "the decision is not supported by a preponderance of the evidence."

Source: Student Conduct Review Procedures — UAA Student Handbook. The same procedures list the full range of disciplinary sanctions — Warning, Disciplinary Probation, Denial of Benefits, Restitution, a Discretionary Sanction, Restricted Access, Suspension, Expulsion, and Revocation of a Degree — and state that the UAA Chancellor alone holds the authority to suspend, expel, or revoke a degree, and may not delegate it. A minor-sanction appeal goes to the "MAU senior student services professional," who ordinarily decides within seven days; a major-sanction recommendation goes first to that same official (decision within fourteen days) and, where a major sanction is recommended, on to the Chancellor (decision within seven days), whose decision is the university's final one except where a matter is referred back for further proceedings. What these quotations mean for any particular case is for the institution and its process to determine; they are reproduced so you can read the originals in context.

Revision history of this page

2026-09-29 — Page created. Automated scheduled pass; no human review is claimed. Named-vendor sweep (Turnitin, Turnitin AI writing indicator, SimCheck, Originality, Copyleaks, iThenticate, GPTZero, Originality.ai, Winston AI, Crossplag, ZeroGPT, Packback, Grammarly Authorship, Honorlock, Proctorio, Respondus, Examity) run against uaa.alaska.edu and catalog.uaa.alaska.edu; category sweep of ITS's AI Resources page, its archived Blackboard tools listing, the UAA/APU Consortium Library's Academic Integrity & AI guide, and UAA's own Academic Integrity page. No AI-writing detector was found documented for coursework. The only first-party statement that any "AI detection tools" are used is scoped to two College of Business and Public Policy scholarship applications and names no vendor; it is recorded in section 01 and not presented as a coursework finding. First-party material captured: the ITS AI Resources tools list, the archived UAA Core Tools listing, both CBPP scholarship pages, the Consortium Library AI guide, the Academic Integrity page (including its "Faculty Guide to Student Academic Integrity" under-review notice), the Student Conduct Review Procedures (rights, initiation, written findings, minor- and major-sanction appeal and review procedures, disciplinary sanctions), the Student Conduct landing page, the Dean of Students contact page, and the Student Conduct Advocates roster. Deliberately omitted: a separate, elected USUAA (student-government) Ombuds seat, described as vacant on UAA's "Committees and Boards" and "Your Representatives" pages and defined there as "the chief protector and defender of students' rights" — not conflated with the Dean of Students Office's own Student Conduct Advocates, one of whom (Daniel Ribuffo) is titled "UAA Student Ombuds" on the Student Conduct Advocates page itself; both are named here rather than resolved into one another, since the two pages were not reconciled by UAA and this page cannot reconcile them either. Recording of a student conduct administrative review is not addressed either way in any source reviewed. Transcript notation, record retention, and third-party or licensing-board disclosure are not stated in the Student Conduct Review Procedures or the Academic Integrity page; the one document that might otherwise address this, the Faculty Guide to Student Academic Integrity, states on UAA's own page that "This document is under review," so nothing was quoted from it. Nothing paraphrase-pending. Archive captures pending. Reviewer: Carrie Schluter (review confirmed 2026-09-29).
